AMAZON SHOPPING CAN HELP HODAN COMMUNITY SERVICES

Amazon.com has just started a new opportunity for shoppers to have .5% of their purchases donated to their favorite charity at no cost. Hodan Community Services has signed up to be a participant in this program and we hope that you will select us as your favorite nonprofit. It is simple. Here is how it works:

    1. Go to www.smile.amazon.com

   2. Log-in to your Amazon.com account or set up a new account if you do not have one.

   3. Type and select "Hodan Community Services, Incorporated" as the charitable organization to receive donations from your purchases before you begin shopping.

  4.  Start Shopping! You will see products marked as "Eligible for AmazonSmile donation" on the product details pages.

Please invite your family and friends to select "Hodan Community Services, Incorporated" when shopping on Amazon. Thank you for your support with this initiative.

MAKING A GIFT:

Making a gift to Hodan Community Services is easy. Simply write a check and send it to Hodan Community Services, 941 W Fountain St, Mineral Point, WI 53565. Unless you ask us to use your gift for a specific purpose, we will use it to continue our present programs for people with disabilities

You may also designate that your gift be “In Memory Of” or ”In Honor Of” someone special to you. All donors who send gifts, including Honorariums and Memorials, are listed in our Centerline Annual Report.

ENDOWMENT:

In January, 2002, the Board of Directors formally established the Hodan Community Services Endowment Fund. This fund, managed by the Madison Community Foundation, will help secure the future of Hodan Community Services. Donations given to the Endowment are permanent; the principal cannot be touched, only the interest may be used.

We want to have our Endowment grow so that it will help provide flexibility for future programming. We hope that you will consider Hodan Community Services Endowment Fund in your estate planning. Your gift will help secure the future of Hodan Community Services and also may give tax benefits to you. For more information, please call Tom Schraeder at Hodan Community Services 608.987.3336, or consult your personal financial advisor.

Please note we welcome cash donations to the Hodan Community Services Endowment Fund sent directly to Hodan Community Services. You are also able to make credit card donations to this fund by contacting the Madison Community Foundation toll free at 888-400-7643.

ESTATE PLANNING:

There are many ways a person can help provide for Hodan Community Services future. For instance, Hodan Community Services can be included in a person’s will. If this is the case, it is important to remember that our official name needed for this document is Hodan Community Services, Inc.

The following article was written by our Financial Advisor, Mike Lisle. It is one example of many different kinds of financial vehicles that can help you, as a person who wants to give to others, find the best path to give.

Give the tree, but keep the apples!
What do we mean by this? If we told you there is a way to make a charitable gift, receive income from that gift and have a charitable deduction also, would you be interested?

A method of giving known as the Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT) is the perfect solution for those people who are philanthropic or care for the mission of a charitable organization, have an asset they can afford to give away, but need the income from that asset. By establishing a CRAT, the donor places the asset such as appreciated stock into the trust. The trust can invest the proceeds to provide income. The donor withdraws an income for life or for a period of time up to 20 years and also receives a charitable deduction that can be used to offset the taxes from the income.

Let’s do a quick example: Suppose Mary, aged 68 has $100,000 in an appreciated stock with a cost basis of $10,000. In establishing a CRAT, she makes the charitable gift to the trust of the $100,000 stock, avoids paying capital gains tax, receives an income of $8,000 annually for life and still receives a charitable gift deduction of nearly $35,000 which could be used now or be spread out over a period of 6 years.

Since Hodan Community Services has recently established an endowment fund a CRAT would be a wonderful gift that would support our goals and help with the endowment fund. For additional information on a CRAT or specific information on your personal situation, please call Tom Schraeder at the Hodan Community Services or speak to your own financial advisor.
